Maratea

They call me the “Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea”.
I am a village overlooking the sea, in the extreme south-west of Basilicata.
My jagged coast is about 32 kilometers long, full of hidden beaches, sea caves and crystal clear waters.
The historic center is a maze of cobbled streets, charming squares and ancient homes that tell centuries of history and lives lived in front of the sea.
From the top of Mount San Biagio, where the Basilica of the same name stands, the majestic 21-meter-high Statue of Christ the Redeemer watches over me and offers visitors a breathtaking panoramic view. My 44 churches bear witness to a profound spirituality and a rich artistic heritage.
My natural beauty is enriched by lush Mediterranean vegetation and mountains that plunge into the sea, creating landscapes of rare beauty.
I invite you to discover my wonders, to get lost in my streets, to relax on my beaches, to let yourself be fascinated by my history and, above all, to dive into my waters.
Come and find me, come and find the pearl that so many love.
